SSAT and ISEE Test Prep at THE MATH CONNECTION
The ISEE
The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) is a three-hour admission test required by independent schools for entrance into grades 5 through 12. This test contains multiple choice questions on vocabulary and sentence completions, reading comprehension, and math. Additionally, there is a brief essay.
Timing for each section depends on the level of the test.
The ISEE has three levels:
- Lower Level for students currently in grades 4 and 5 (in preparation for entrance in grades 5 and 6)
- Middle Level for students in grades 6 and 7 (in preparation for entrance in grades 7 and 8)
- Upper Level for students in grades 8 through 11 (in preparation for entrance in grades 9, 10, 11, 12)
The Math Connection tutors will customize a study program based on the student's performance on our diagnostic evaluation and on each student's own unique learning style, personal strengths and weaknesses. This kind of one-to-one, targeted instruction has been proven to be the most effective way to "do your best" on standardized tests.
Your student will receive specific instruction on the format of the tests and on strategies to acheive his/her best score. Classroom work strengthens the student’s skills in need of practice and homework provides students with the opportunity to apply the tactics and strategies learned in class. These assignments are taken from several professional sources in The Math Connection library.
Should re-teaching of concepts be necessary, our one-on-one instruction and remediation provides a safe and nurturing environment that will ensure that students leave feeling like they have worked toward bettering their skills rather than "just studying for the test."
The SSAT
The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is 2 hours and 35 minutes long, and consists of five sections: a brief essay (25 min.), and four multiple-choice sections: vocabulary, analogies, reading comprehension, and math. The essay is not scored, but will be sent to the schools to which you apply.
The test is administered on two levels:
- Lower (for students currently in grades 5-7)
- Upper (for students currently in grades 8-11)
